TWY,

So why doesn't IBM offer a more complete line of Opteron servers? Bad decision....in my opinion.

Good question. I think the blades are coming, and there is a good probability of 4 way, but nobody is offering yet the bread and butter server based on Opteron, which is 2 to 3U 2 way with some redundancy. This is where most of the server revenue and unit volume is, IMO.

Let's see which company will be the first one to offer it.

Joe

Looks like just about everybody but IBM is having great success with 300mm wafers!

eetimes.com

300-mm wafers reach 'crossover,' say PLD makers

"We have achieved defect densities better than we ever have achieved on 200 millimeters," said Xilinx president and CEO Willem Roelandts during a conference call with financial analysts. "I think we have the bulk of the benefits for our mainline products in the bag."

"Our move to 300 mm continues flawlessly, and we have achieved [a] cost crossover point," he said.

Meanwhile IBM just can't get it right as they stumble and fumble with yield crash after yield crash. These are the guys who are going to help AMD?
