We all know they're just a tool of the US Who do you think you're kidding? That's like saying that the Israelis are a tool of the US... It's not a question of what THEY WERE TOLD BY US.... It's a question of WHAT THEY FAILED TO TELL US!! The Saudis are reknowned for playing their own game. They refused to help us when Khobar Towers was destroyed. They refused to be cooperative in finding out who the 15 Saudis were who attacked the WTC.. They have money out the butt and they have their own interests, especially with regard to placating their Wahabbist clerics... But now, as of last May when they suffered those terrorist bombings, they've finally woken up to the threat mounting against their regime, and that they actually NEED the US more than we need them...More than convenient. Practically mandated by the facts. Facts? Please present CREDIBLE facts showing how the Saudis are a tool of the US (other than providing a "stable" regime that keeps the oil pumping)..Just as a reminder, wasn't it the Saudi's who out of the blue, supported the Nicaraguan insurgents, in support of US policy, in the deal of Arms for Hostages with Iran. And should I remind you that the Saudis, through OPEC, have TWICE attempted to "punish" the US for not condemning Israel's actions. Recall that in 1973, this was in response to an ARAB ATTACK AGAINST ISRAEL, where the US supported the Israelis with weapons and logistics. So I guess we directed the Saudis to do that? And did you know that Saudis denied the US the use of Saudi airspace last spring when the war began? I bet the US told them to do that as well, eh??I'll remind that the Pres of the US at the time was referring to the Afghan mujahideen as "freedom fighters", and was making it very obvious the US was assisting them. Sure... that's how it was sold to the Congress.. And there was quite a bit of truth to it.. They were resisting a Soviet imposed totalitarian regime. And Reagan's goal was more strategic. The use the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan to so weaken and demoralize their government that cracks would appear.. And guess what.. it worked. And the US ceased caring about a bunch of warlords who all have their own agendas. Hawk
