from memory it was the plane he was qualified to fly was no longer being used. the base he transferred to didn't have the plane he flew.

Let me help you... We have various mos jobs in the military . that is the job you were trained and qualified to do.. for example a person who fires a 105 howitzer. Now if that person needs to make up drills in the reserve and he goes to a headquarters unit there are no guns. So he may sit in an office all day reading manuals. He may be assigned to help out the armour staff, but he/she wouldn't find a 105 howitzer at headquarters unit. The make up drill maybe with engineering group. It may be a bridge building group. Well , that person may also hang around for the drill in some section keeping out of the way so as not to get hurt etc. Other times you can make up a drill for special training as one or two people maybe required to learn how to operate a certain piece of equipment. For example a spot light mounted on a jeep or truck. Unless someone knows how to use one of those things they could blind several people and severely burn them. That type of training is done outside regular drills. How this helps why Bush never flew again.. Also cost,, why would they want to spend the time and money to qualify him on another plane with time served except for maybe a year or two. it wouldn't make sense. They were prefer to take a new recruit and train and get six years out of them.
