First off, I dont find the planning in Iraq incompetent. Bush has assembled some of the finest minds in America and he is someone who listens to all sides before making his decision. IMHO the planning was the best to be expected with the facts known. Yes, intelligence COULD have been better, but Bush inherited the intelligence system. Not his fault it wasnt up to par. War is a fluid thing, I've been there, done that and I can tell you the SIMPLEST thing like even an ambush stakeout often has to be modified as conditions present themselves. The ABILITY to adapt is the American Military's finest trait.
Secondly, considering all the crap Bush inherited from a severely understrength Intelligence Dept., Morally defunct Corporate Leadership, beginnings of a Recession, and finally the attack on 9/11 representing the worst sneak attack in Americas HISTORY, I'd say he has done DAMN GOOD in keeping the morale up, the recession ended and the rapidly growing economy. A lesser man could easily have pulled a Carter and we would be talking about a REAL MISERY INDEX. jdn
