Once a felon has served his sentence, that person in most states may should they desire petition the court for the right to bear arms again. To date, as far as I knw, only nonviolent offenders have been given that right back to them. It is on a case by case basis.

Since 1965, the US treasury has had the right to issue permits to felons, but congress has blocked it annually. It is a state decision.

tonto, great find! Thanks for the information. How about the right to possess firearms? Huey Lewis, the singer, was arrested years ago for carrying a gun because he was a felon.
Nevertheless, Clinton was not a felon as someone alleged, which is what started this discussion.

Thirdly, even former felons are not allowed to vote...it's in the Constitution...if you folks read and understood it</>
