Goldwater was miserably presented by the RNC that year. The DemonNC took full advantage of that mistake by "..blast-O-spamming.." ol' Floppy-ears all over the place - like the ego-driven clown ever had a clue. That scene in The Right Stuff where the astronauts wife refused to have Johnson in her house was pretty cool; leaving him to fume outside in the Limo like Clintwit without an intern. Being a wet-eared high school punk at the time, I never got the message about his Military service of his capabilities as a pilot. Like really good single-malt scotch, the RNC grows on you in time.
