The North didn't mind 'burning off' the Viet Kong --- that was one less potential alternate power center for them to have to deal with after they regained control.

...None of that means that if we'd stayed there bleeding for another 20 years that anything would have ended differently.

Comparisons of Vietnam and Iraq are idiotic by any numbers. In the article below not only was North Vietnam constantly sending in resources, but the Soviet Union was also as well as China.

No one is sending the logistics like that carried by thousands on the Ho Chi Minh trail. At the height of the Vietnam War that we were winning and lost by dumb leadership, over 600 men a week were being killed. That death rate occurred because idiots selected by democrats were in charge.

Currently there is a lot of stuff laying around in Iraq. It is very finite and is being eliminated slowly but surely.

Now put Hanoi John in the White house and America will have a war on terror quagmire.
