One tamed through this policy is --- Gaddafi...his past and present, the difference is so visible. The other being dealt a severe hand is 'Sadr' in Najaf and militants entrenched in Fullajah, who says that 911 events and Bush doctrine have changed the world for Americans, open season on Americans have been the core activity of the extremists led by likes of Gaddafi and Saddam much before the post 911 doctrine.... now most of those criminals are on the run or under attack, that irks many. Pre 911-----Gaddafi 'the cold blooded terrorist' <The Australian can reveal that two years before the December 1988 Lockerbie bombing, Gaddafi attempted to blow up a US airliner over Israel. The plan was to hijack Pan Am flight 73 from Bombay to Frankfurt and New York and blast it out of the sky over Israel. Senoussi hired Abu Nidal, the notorious Palestinian hitman. Nidal died in Baghdad in 2002, a broken reed. But in the 1980s, when he lived in Libya, his terrorist group was the most feared in the world. The terrorists flew to Pakistan and were provided with explosives and guns that had been smuggled in by diplomatic bag. They dressed up as Karachi airport security officers and seized the airliner when it landed at Karachi after the first leg of its journey from Bombay. Beneath the uniforms, explosives were strapped to their bodies. The terrorists refused to break under interrogation so the Pakistani intelligence service concocted a brazen piece of deception. It tricked them into believing Gaddafi was dead by printing a dummy copy of a newspaper with a front page banner headline announcing his sudden demise in a plane crash. When the paper was delivered to their cells, the terrorists broke down and confessed that the Libyan leader had sponsored their mission. It was no longer necessary to keep his role secret, they said, now that their hero was dead. > full story..................theaustralian.news.com.au Gaddafi post 911.. as late as today----------- <Gaddafi's move to restore Libya to international respectability was given a kickstart by his announcement in December that he was renouncing weapons of mass destruction. That led to a process of diplomatic opening climaxing in a visit to Tripoli by British Prime Minister Tony Blair in March, in which he held out the "hand of partnership" to the Libyan leader. Gaddafi declared his readiness to work with the West peacefully after years of championing armed struggle against it. “Libya did its duty when duty had to be done by arms,” he said. That included firing missiles at US fighter aircraft in the 1980s and setting up training camps for ”freedom fighters” from around the developing world, for which he said Libya was “unjustly” accused of a “kind of terrorism.” Now that Libya has given up its weapons programmes, it has become “an example to be followed,” he asserted, calling on countries “from China to America” to do the same. “I would like to seize the opportunity today and declare before you that Libya is determined and committed to play a leading role in achieving world peace,” he said. “The time has now come to reap the fruits of this armed struggle, namely peace, stability, development. Now we are facing different or new challenges which are common enemies to all of us.” Noting Libya’s huge gas and oil reserves, he said European and US companies were needed “to update and modernise the wells and to develop them". “This requires peace,” he said, hinting at a possible motivation for his change of heart. He promised to cooperate on curbing illegal immigration – a crucial issue across the EU.>
