hmmmmm, I went to the mirror site and tried to download -- every link I get the message "No input file specified"

You're right - the links aren't specified correctly currently. For instance, the CS Department of Virginia Tech is set up as
www.knopper.net/knoppix/download.php3?lang=en&link=ftp://raven.cslab.vt.edu/pub/linux/knoppix/
(I left out the leading "http" so that the link is not subjected to the abbreviation of a real link.)
The trick is to copy and paste the part starting with ftp:// - in this case
ftp://raven.cslab.vt.edu/pub/linux/knoppix/
Then you reach the Knoppix directory. The file to download would be
ftp://raven.cslab.vt.edu/pub/linux/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V3.3-2004-02-16-EN.iso
Sorry, Virginia Tech, I hope you've got a wide enough pipe...
