The appeal to emotions to suppress truth -- including fear, hatred and pride -- has been used very effectively by the Bush Administration. It is hard to think when you are full of fear and hate or when you are called upon to fall in line in support of national pride. I stand by my statement: If people could see what has happened and had a chance to think about it rather than be emotionally manipulated as you correctly observe, then I believe Americans en masse would be outraged at having their interests sold out from underneath them. Honesty and human decency run deep in American people -- these are exactly the values that have been trampled by Bush, and if Americans cannot find a way to return to core values then there is no hope of turning this around. Bush is running on fear, hatred and lies -- this can be used to manipulate people but as they say, it is hard to fool all of the people all of the time. It is not too late for the truth to sink in.
