If your rich enough, you can buy a tax-avoiding shelter package from Smith-Barney or Merrill Lynch, and pay no taxes at all. These aren't available to those brown-bagging their lunches. Our tax laws have come to favor wealth over fairness. The most regressive tax is FICA, which just hits those earning less than 87k as compensation for work, yet it just goes into the general fund like any other tax. Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy just exacerbate this trend. This is an area where Kerry is very different from Bush, and much better.
