OT: Banning does not infringe on any poster's free speech rights. But I know what you are referring to: I also welcome an open discussion on the thread's subject.

Before there were moderated threads, I posted as a short seller on several stocks. I was always polite, but I probably would have been banned just for my analysis! That does not make any sense. I don't mind negative comments, I just ignore most of them anyway. As an example: I doubt anyone really cares about whether Kerry threw away his ribbons or his medals - an obvious red herring.

However, when a poster continuously harasses other posters, calls them names, and violates SI's TOU, banning seems appropriate.
