If Kerry can keep the Gore states he'll win because he's doing surprisingly well in several states which Bush won in 2000, including Florida which Bush stole. Kerry also has the luxury of a VP pick who could deliver one, two or even three battleground states. Richardson is the one who could win the most extra states for Kerry. Edwards is the most charismatic. Clark can best fend off the weak-on-defense lies and deliver Arkansas. Whomever Kerry picks must help him win Florida at least.
