Ten,

re: That was the idea behind communism and it's modern cousin, socialism. When individual freedoms are suppressed for the cause of the "greater good," and when the "greater good" feeds a culture of dependency and entitlements, the system breaks down. These aren't surface problems with the implementation of such a system, but fundamental problems with the underlying assumptions behind the "greater society" myth. Trying to fix them would be as futile as trying to make water run up a stream. It's simple human nature.

A surprising un-Christian attitude.

The nature of this country has always been the more fortunate helping the less fortunate. Not political or religious. Just generous. We've always been good people. "There but by the grace of God goes I".

John

Al, Organized societies pool resources and provide for the greater good.

That was the idea behind communism and it's modern cousin, socialism. Your statement has zero weight.

For the millionth time, what was in Russia was not communism. There were small elements of communism but most of it was a totalitarian, right wing oligarchy.

An example of communism is the kibbutz in Israel and they are doing very well thank you very much.

The countries in Europe, including Sweden, are free market economies with socialistic overtones. They are doing very well thank you very much.
