One of my favorite early impressions of the Internet was a fabulous vanity site produced by George Goble of Purdue University. He demonstrated the technique of lighting charcoal with liquid oxygen and an ignition source. Needless to say, the results were spectacular. He was able to nearly instantly start the charcoal going from 40 pounds of biquets to 8 pounds of glowing coals in about 8 seconds.

Unfortunately, the powers-that-be at Purdue found this demonstration less fun after 9/11. They crucially lacked and continue to lack a sense of humor about all this physics and chemistry stuff.
