Hello Carl,

Even though I am very much against the way the US has invaded Iraq, I really do think the Saddam Hussein was an evil man who should be toppled. Not for his non-existant WMD's but for being a brutal dictator.

But the whole manner of the Iraq invasion is wrong.

The US had a UN resolution requiring the Government of Iraq to respect human rights. And there was plenty of proof human rights were trampled in Iraq.

But I am convinced the US did not invade to do the Iraqi's any favor. They invaded to remove a little bit of support Iraq was giving to Palestinians. Of course Bush couldn't just say that to the US voters, so his handlers came up with the wmd issue to scare the people into thinking "let's kill them before they kill us".

The destruction of the ability to oppose Israel is the only consistent theme in this invasion. That is why it is irrelevant whether there is electricity, or that hospitals function or not. Those are secondary considerations. Nice to have. But not worth putting in the plan.

The invasion was was also intended as an example of the catastrophe that would be imposed by the US on any country that entertained the idea of helping Palestinians oppose Israel. Which explains the noises being made against Iran in their nuclear quest.

Israel knows that it only takes one country with a credible deterrent, to provide arms to palestinians, and their whole strategy will collapse.

Anyway, Israel's goal is accomplished. There is no reason to stay in Iraq. The US will kill a few more thousands of people then leave.

Sarmad

Another of Carl's expected scenarios is unfolding. Is this phase 3, where the guerrillas control their own areas, and where the occupation force does not go in ?

By JASON KEYSER, Associated Press Writer

FALLUJAH, Iraq - U.S. Marines announced Thursday an agreement to end a bloody, nearly four-week-old siege of Fallujah, saying American forces will pull back and allow an all-Iraqi force commanded by a former Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)-regime general to take over security.
