The multi-megaton monsters the USSR built were country crushers. Lob one east of the Mississippi and you take out Washington.

We built some pretty big ones ourselves. Titan had a multi-meg warhead. Though blast effects are not linear with yield; blast effects are inversely proportional to the radius**2.

They had some difficulty with accuracy so they made them bigger.

Which provides the basis for a hypothetical question. Is it in our own interests for the Chinese to have more or less accurate ballistic missiles?

It just isn't cheery enough for the masses.

Times may have changed. With all the violence depicted in movies [with their apparent popularity] the public might just be itching to see a re-release.

I took a course at one of the national labs back in the 80's on effects. The class drank heavily that night.
