maybe something like "Logan's Run", where everybody over the age of six gets killed unless they win some impossible game. that would be some "treatment".

seriously, i wonder if there might be some exacerbation of inter-generational tensions as the older generations increasingly become parasites on the younger.

the book also implicitly assumes a steadily advancing GDP over the next century, which i believe is impossible if peak oil is a reality. i can only imagine that a declining real GDP and productivity in the decades ahead will worsen the fiscal problems.
