Then what are we to take of the increased beligerence from the PA ahead of Israel's unilateral withdrawal (Israelis saying at one time they intended to leave existing structures intact, unlike during the withdrawl from Sinai) from Gaza.

I know you'll have a reason why it is a bad thing for the PA, but still, wouldn't it be nice to have an overture of peace.

Why? You claim to know Israel and Palestine. Why would the Palestinians be happy that Israel is pulling out of Gaza but is keeping the West Bank where all the water is. I'm sure they will send Sharon a "Go with Allah" card as soon as they get the screw out of their backs.

That's like Nevada telling CA, you can have the Mojave Desert, and we'll take the rest of the state. Really........you've got to be kidding!

"Oh, withdrawing from gaza, thanks, and as a sign of good will we'll not engage in terrorism for a week or two. Maybe we can find a moment to talk during that time about other things." Instead, Yassin planned a major major massacre, but it was foiled. Of course, there's was the suicide attempt with the mentally disabled boy. And numerous other terror attempts. It makes zero sense for Israel not to deploy its military might at this time. You know, I just can't get my ahead around the notion that the PA wants ever jew dead and Israel vanquished. And then what, -- oh ya, equal rights for jews and arabs, yes...no offence to arabs, but I'm not impressed with how they run their countries, their treatment of women, justice in general, freedom of rights, do you know that in Iran girls can be legally married off at nine years old, etc, etc...

How about trying to get your arms around the image of the Palestinians wanting their own state and Israel not allowing it. If someone were keeping us......Americans.....from our freedom and our own state, I would expect every last one of us to fight.

And the sucker who gave a smile to our enslavers, I would shoot in the back. Got it!

How utterly ridiculous to expect the Palestinians to be happy over this latest screw job by the butthole called Ariel Sharon.

Because the same "unilateral withdrawal" says they are to keep the settlements in West Bank, for one.

Yassin planned a major major massacre, but it was foiled

Are you talking about the paraplegic guy Israel assassinated? Do you KNOW that it was HIM that planned this particular attack?

And then what

Separate countries. Separate ways of life. Separate interests.

oh ya, equal rights for jews and arabs

That will never happen because Israel is a Jewish state, remember? There is no way they are going to let millions of Palestinians become Israeli citizens.

I'm not impressed with how they run their countries, their treatment of women, justice in general, freedom of rights

So Israel should oppress them. Right.

I would not want to spend my life living in a future Palestine, if it's going to be a smaller Iran, either. Still, they are human beings who have the right to draw their own future in whatever way they see fit. That this future might be far from YOUR ideal way of life does not change the FACT that they have the right to shape their own future.

do you know that in Iran girls can be legally married off at nine years old

Legal age for marriage in Iran is 13 for girls and 15 for boys.

People get married earlier in the ME. It is a different way of life, one where people are actually assumed to have a single sexual partner throughout their lives. In that context, it makes sense in their social fabric for people to get married once they are sexually active.

To many ME people, the American way of high school kids necking in cars, "dates" (guys who are just there to have sex with your daughter) coming to pick the girl up from home, and especially "casual sex", "one night stands" and all that stuff that you consider "normal" and "modern" are unthinkable. If you think getting married at 13 is a horror, think of how they see YOUR way of life.

Take care not to fall into that trap of thinking your way is the only way. Different cultures and different situations lead to different social solutions.
