Looks like the "Army" being formed is the political position. We have been pounding the hell out of them all day with 500 lb bombs and rockets.

Mike, I actually see the need for more troops, not less, and a more aggressive stance towards the insurgents. Otherwise, whatever turnover of sovereignty--which won't be nearly as complete as many think--takes place on 6/30 will result in a civil war whose consequences we cannot yet begin to imagine, making the entire enterprise a waste of lives, time, and money.

Complete sovereignty turnover won't take place for at least a year. During that time, we need to protect the fledgling state. Doing so properly means more, not fewer, troops.

We have been spoiled by the rapidity in which events take place in our world. We want everything on a clean platter ASAP. This is not the pace at which things happen elsewhere.

The process cannot be completed in a few months; at least a couple of years are required to settle things. Preparing Iraq for democracy takes time and fortitude and commitment. To start the return of troops at the end of June is crazy. Might as well dump the whole thing down the gurgler.
