"nor are they even very likely ones"

They are exagerated a bit, and you are correct that the chances that me and my kids will be alive is fairly good. But the chances of another 9-11 (and worse) without the DECISIVE action taken against terrorists and those that support them is very high. I really wish more in the world (particularly Americans) realized the danger the terrorists pose and that changing how we live in hopes of appeasing them is really, really ridiculous. See Spain. Support our war on terror and the world will be a better place.

"but, yes, Russia's is at 13%... I believe Croatia is at 19%"

And our top guys (and gals) pay 35%. Lots of pie in the sky talk about what would be fair and what would work, but what we have is what we have, and it is already heavily weighted towards the rich guys. So the bellyaching kind of bothers me. If a flat tax was proposed and the facts laid out and it was fair, I would probably support it. But generallities tied to countries that are not nearly as succesful as us, and probably don't take in anywhere near the same amount of taxes seems kind of silly.
