Hal, I was referring to the current flap over Senator Kerry's war record and his anti-war protests plus Bush being AWOL from the National Guard for almost a year. People and events do change over time although historical events and records remain the same.

Where religion is concerned, Jew or Christian can find horrid events and cruelty that was done by man in the name of God. God does not change but people do. I am a firm believer that a large percentage of learned men in our present world are capable of coming to resolutions that enable all to live in peace and harmony provided we recognize that we have to do something with those who will not listen to reason. Maybe if we could make up our minds to not allow ourselves to give bigotry and discrimination power by simply tuning it out. They only have power because we give them that power by over-reacting to their taunts.

Once we agree to what is morally right and what is immoral then maybe we can each practice our religious differences with toleration and understanding.

It's a hard sell but someone has to start it somewhere. I do know there can be no room for personal attacks upon each other. That is what gives the close minded bigots their power if we are caught up in it.

James

Hal, I just want to add that our religious system must be broken beyond repair! How can anything good result in so much bad? Surely there is a way to find a path somewhere between religiousity and real spirituality. I know it sounds impossible considering the frailties of humanity but we must eventually find some harmony before we destroy ourselves.

I have certain beliefs and theology but I believe that God is powerful enough to work out the differences in men's beliefs if we make the decision to begin to make a difference.
