You don't think that defeating the evil empire was a strategic goal? What was it then?

That's the big problem I have with our foreign policy. It's tactical, always. Very rarely do we act strategically.

The Taliban did not exist until 1994. The Soviets left Afghanistan in 1989, and the regime installed by the Soviets ended in 1992. You are confusing the Taliban with the Mujahidin. Now granted some of the Taliban were former Mujahidin, but the Taliban took over the country by defeating the different Mujahidin groups, one-by-one.

More likely, those RPGs were purchased from the diverted moneys from the "Oil For Food Program".
