The odds of such a leader being pro-American is so close to zero as to be virtually nonexistent. Ditto for the chances of Iraq remaining anything resembling a secular democracy ("laws to be obeyed are God's laws (Shariat) and not men's laws" and all that) after the election of a religious fundamentalist government.

Think again.

As long as a government is established which provides for free elections and orderly transfers of power, I guess they can elect whomever they wish

Just like in Iran, that is.
