I think that, up to 911, the Russian brass was split into two camps: those who favored a US-led intervention in Afghanistan to neutralize the Pashtun warlords, and those who wanted to keep the US out and believed that Russia could deal with Afghanistan on her own.... Putin belongs to the first camp --and I guess that General A. Lebed belonged to the second (hence his elimination). Re: as for the wtc... at least you have a theory... some of us have no theory at all except to say, "they're lying to us... again".... Correct... We were millions across the world in the wake of 911 to figure out that the official bin-laden-alqaeda theory was just a load of BS... But then, that was the easy part --after debunking the US gov's tall tales, one has yet to find out what really happened. And, well, I must confess I have grossly underestimated the scope and depth of the coverup. In particular, I fell for the suicide crashes on the WTC... although I never swallowed the Pentagon crash nor the "heroic melee" aboard flight 93. So, I admit I've been fooled on the 911 machination itself: as I said to our resident cop Ray Duray, 911 was basically an inside job whose chief executive was most likely VP Cheney. But then again, Dick Cheney is not a psychopath whose lust for bloodshed prompted him to plot 911 --he must have had some very good, sensible reason to get involved. And that's where Israel and --to a lesser extent-- Russia come into the picture. Although Putin was ready to collaborate with the US administration to help it bring troops in Afghanistan, Israel had higher ambitions: she wanted to use the whole "Taliban hijack" ploy as a springboard to bump the ball up to Iraq.... Now, as you know, I was not in the least duped about the way the US administration capitalized on 911: early on, I claimed that al-qaeda was merely the post-Cold War sequel to Gladio and that a similar "strategy of tension" had been contrived by US intelligence against Islam... (*) I quickly understood that the US war machine was craving for a new arch-enemy, a new ideological Nemesis to replace Communism. Therefore, I didn't miss the broader picture: the US has taken on Islam the same way it fought previously against Communism. Gus (*) Message 19475925
