In the time it takes to find another marriage celebrant, the woman may actually think about what the judge said and, maybe, the man might, too. Perhaps. I was writing off the possibility that a woman cowed/stupid/desperate enough to marry a man the very next day after a beating would be inspired by the judge to reinvent her life. But I suppose it could happen. My reaction, what provoked the "feel good" comment, was a sense in that column that the author thought that scenario was somehow "about him," which turned me off.
