Among other reasons, OBL listed the Kuwait war and the UN embargo against Iraq. And his fatwa against the US was issued 4 days after Clinton threatened war with Iraq in a speech at the Pentagon (the reason was the refusal to cooperate with UN inspectors). Yes, Al Qaida was an ally of Saddam Hussein then as now. The 1993 WTC bombing was timed to coincide as closely as possible (and still kill the maximum number of civilians) with the 2nd anniversary of Saddam's defeat.
