The Thirld World is full of anti- colonialist bitterness, some of it understandable, that has been manipulated to deflect criticism of native regimes for malfeasance and corruption. Militant Islam has added an apocalyptic dimension to the supposed struggle against the West, by making it a matter of spiritual observance versus the seductions of commercialism and modern thought. Moderate Muslims have some difficulty confronting it head on because they are invested in the ambient anti- Western/ anti-Americanism. In addition, those on the board who share this anti- Westernism believe that our prosperity has been mainly built on the backs of the "wretched of the Earth", and that we sow misery with our false values and lack of understanding of root causes. Whatever we do is bound to be wrong.

Hi skinowski,

Their more moderate co-religionists should be happy that we find ourselves on their side, but they prefer, apparently, to enjoy the illusory "mileage" they get from the "victories" of the terrorists over the West. If they don't wake up, they'll end up getting "re-educated" some day in brand new islamist Gulags and other killing fields.

Bingo!
