A good analysis, thanks. We have trouble dealing with any sort of fanaticism. We tend to assume that fanatical ideas are just a proxy for grievances we do understand, or that they are debilitating and incapacitate the deluded. Actually, it is likelier that fanatic delusions are embraced for the romance of it, rather than because of privation. After all, most of the Al- Qaida operatives are relatively educated and resourceful, and the constituency for the Hindu party in India is solidly middle class. Additionally, the quality of one's core ideas does not mean that one's is without intellectual resources when it comes to implementing them. Fanatics are far more dangerous than most give them credit for.........
