This is a disaster:

Iraqi prison photos mar U.S. image

John, I don't think it matters much. Unfortunately, I think that kind of behavior has been expected by most people in the world. Rumors of such abuses have been swirling for months; if not here in the US, then in the world press.

Last nite, my German friends called and we talked about what's going on. Since they both can pass for 'Americans' and speak English fluently, they immediately tell new people they meet that they are German. The girlfriend is an architect........she has jobs in Qatar and Cairo. She is expecting she will be pulled off the Cairo job soon because Cairo is becoming too dangerous for Westerners.

Her boyfriend is an engineer and software specialist.......he travels to some Muslim countries in Asia and also to Japan. His boss is advising him to take precautions because of the way he looks. All of this is due to the world wide rise in anti Americanism.

Both are telling me that they have never seen anti American sentiment so high......everywhere and not just in the Muslim countries.

And to add insult to injury.......we're paying for the 'privilege' in American lives and $$$ in Iraq. Unbelievable!
