Who made this decision? Where does the buck stop? Bush got rolled by State. Most of the people running the ME desk of State Department got Political Science or ME degrees from our colleges in the 70's and 80's. Their Profs were either radical left or ME immigrants. They came out believing what Said wrote in his seminal book, "Orientalism." They think the Israelis are colonizers and that we should not interfere with other countries. They were all against our actions since 911. I am reading a wonderful book on the Terrorists and our Government since 1979, called Ghost Wars. It starts off with the incident in Islambad in '79 when the Islamist students attacked and burned our Embassy in Pakistan. This was right at the start of the Iran hostage crisis, and got lost in the noise. The Marine NCO and his men were not allowed by the State admin head there to stop the arsonists from firing the place, which they could have done. One Marine and a couple of State people lost their lives. No action was taken against the State guy, he went on to a fine career. I am sure the now retired NCO and his men are still bitter about it.
