Expanding hope for bone marrow transplant patients

Another interesting Israeli company.

jpost.com

From the article:

"Around Rosh Hashana time last year, Dr. Irit Arbel, CEO of biotechnology start-up Pluristem Life Systems, showed her employees a film about umbilical cord blood and about the patients who undergo bone marrow transplants using it. Many left the meeting room in tears, and returned straight to their laboratories, some of them putting in a 24-hour shift.

"We understand this is a business and all of us, including me, want to get a profit from it, but we also understand that we are developing a life-saving technology that can offer help and hope to many patients in this field," admits Arbel.

Pluristem's technology, the PluriX Bioreactor which is still only at pre-clinical trial stage, can expand stem cells, T-cells, and other blood-related cells. While there are many potential applications for this technology, at present the 12-man company has decided to focus on the expansion of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) from umbilical cord blood, which can be used for bone-marrow transplants.

The significance of a device that can expand cord blood is huge. Today, bone marrow transplants are the last hope for many patients suffering from diseases that range from cancer and leukemia, to lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and other diseases of the immune or blood systems."

Mother, four children killed in terror attack in Gaza

Those who want their own Palestinian State want to build that state with the blood of women and children. These killers are depraved animals who don't value Jewish life, or their own lives. A Palestinian State would not only be a terrorist state, but a state of horrors.

The Palestinian killers called the murder of a mother and her children a "heroic" attack!?

If Israel ever wants peace, ALL Arabs must be sent home, from Gaza and the West Bank, to their Arab country of origin.

haaretzdaily.com

Five members of an Israeli family - a mother and her four children - were killed Sunday afternoon in a Palestinian shooting attack on their vehicle while they were traveling on the road that leads to the Gaza Strip settlement bloc of Gush Katif.

The victims of the terror attack were identified as mother Tali Hatuel, 34, and her daughters Hila, 11, Hadar, 9, Roni, 7, and Merav, 2.

Tali Hatuel, a resident of the Katif settlement, was a social worker for the Gaza Coast Regional Council. She was eight months pregnant, Israel Radio reported.

The five will be laid to rest 6:30 P.M. Sunday at the new cemetery in Ashkelon.

The Islamic Jihad and Popular Resistance Committees, an umbrella organization of militant groups, claimed responsibility for the "heroic" attack in a call to The Associated Press. The two terrorists were named as Ibrahim Hamed and Faisal Abuntera, residents of Rafah in the southern Strip.

Police said the Hatuels' white Citroen station wagon spun off the road after the initial shooting, then the attackers approached the vehicle and shot the occupants at close range.
