Note I don't post two days a week. ;)

And your presence is sorely missed... <g>

Seriously, I don't get it. I recognize that dial-up seems slow by contrast, but in actual practice, I don't get the problem. I just clicked on a bunch of SI links and the response was three seconds. So, you click "next ten," wait three seconds, read for five or ten minutes, then wait three seconds for the next ten messages, read for another five or ten minutes... There are fifty some messages waiting on the thread this morning. That's seven waits of three seconds if you count getting into the thread in the first place. Oh, the pain! I just can't bear it! Seriously, I'm pretty self indulgent but hooking up to something faster seems like a waste of money to me.

Admittedly, my situation has added complications. I work from a laptop perched on my belly as I lie in bed. Which means that hanging a big old modem off this thing produces a hassle much worst than a few second wait. My configuration needs to be lean and light and mobile. That makes the decision obvious to me. Normal people, who sit at desks when they're on line, don't have that obstacle. But, were that not an issue, I still don't think I'd pay several times as much for faster page loads.
