The best thoughts on Iraq this week on Blowhard Bill's show were-as always-from Newt Gingrich (whom O'Reilly brings in every time he goes over the edge and endangers himself with his audience.)

Newt pointed out that the British have found and used Iraqis to help police their occupation areas, with British back up, and that explains why the Brits have very few problems in their areas. The US is just starting to do that-as the experiment in Fallujah shows.

The British were colonizing when the first Americans were just starting to scratch out communities on the Atlantic coast 400 years ago. Handling subhumans under occupation is a lesson Americans have never wanted to learn. The time to learn that lesson started on 91101, and the British are the best teachers we could ask for...

Two other top notch alternate-history novels that will entertain Civil War enthusiasts:

Harry Turtledove's "The Guns of the South", and "How Few Remain".

But watch out for Harry, he's addictive...
