Steve,

I'm shocked! A (wrong) but semi-intelligent post from Steve. Off your meds?

Are there abuses in the welfare system? You bet. Is it a big problem? Not really. The Welfare Reform Act of 1996 did a lot to curb abuses, and get a ton of people off welfare and back to work. It was good legislation. That was passed, by the way, by Clinton (our last conservative President) and the "do something positive" 104th Republican Congress.

The bottom line is that in a very rich society, it would be criminal not to have a safety net for those that can't make it, for whatever reason. If a few bucks end up in the hands of the "welfare queens" as you call them, well, that is a tiny, tiny portion of your tax dollar.

There are plenty of other folks getting fat on the dole, however. You ought to be at least equally incensed by the corporate farmers being paid millions not to grow crops, or many of the other "discretionary spending" programs that Bush has embraced. How about a multi-$million grant to St. Augustine, Florida to promote golf?

If you are sincere about government wasting you tax dollars, you should hate Bush, love Clinton. And you should look other places than the minimal abuse of the welfare program; there are many other programs that are 100% waste.

John

At least some of those aliens don't mind working shitty jobs to feed their families that the lazy welfare recipients are paid too much to consider.

Excellent response from John to your penultimate "poor me" post. Just an additional question...these enterprising but otherwise living a meager existence folks you seem to admire...does paying for the medical care their "shitty" jobs typically fail to provide fit your definition of living on the dole?
