I understand your point. I'm saying that in the long run these military movements did not succeed because the civilizations they created eventually failed. It is obvious that they left their mark, otherwise we wouldn't know about them.
In the long run the Crusades did not get Jerusalem back as you point out, Islam eventually lost its conquests in Europe, the nazis and the communists lost as well.

The interpretation of history is just as interesting as history it self. Especially as it applies to the use of military power to spread the word of Bush II to the ME.
