<OT>we would have had their guts for garters.

Part of an old pirate song, whose lyrics I can't seem to find anywhere on the web:

"I'll set the sails with your entrails,
I'll have your guts for garters.."

Pirate songs are wonderful stuff.

My 7 year-old loves pirate songs but he also listens to Irish drinking songs. Hard to explain to people where or why he learned such great songs as as "Tim Finnegan's Wake", and "Seven Drunken Nights." [NB: He only sings the latter song 'til Friday. Until I read the lyrics for Saturday and Sunday on the web, I had no idea "Seven Drunken Nights" was as risque as it is.]
