I thought you supported our invasion. Weren't you were ready to go in after hearing all the pre-war hype?

Yes, I did support the invasion after listening to Powell's January '03 speech. Like many Americans, I try to listen to the available evidence, then form an opinion. My opinion can, and sometimes does, change as the situation changes.

And my opinion about US involvement in Iraq changed months ago. By the way, I'd appreciate it if you would address me directly rather than passively (and not a little self-righteously) alluding to me and the opinion I expressed over a year ago:

I read so damn many columns, posts, etc. headlined like this..
RE: The Iraq quagmire:

"Why we went wrong".

"Where we went wrong"..

"Why we can't fail"

Ad nauseum by "respected?" "left?" leaning politicians and columnists, etc. .

Well god damn it.. It's not poly sci 101. We, as a society, (not me btw) went wrong the minute, we went in.. It was the idiocy of the average member of our society... So no hand wringing now..

For example, As I read here on SI by posters, I thought had some degree of sophistication in world affairs after Powell spoke to the UN a year ago.. I heard them say to the effect, "I heard enough", I am convinced, let's go in.." :(

Jeesus Keerist, so if the above believed the BS of Powell et al, Well, we ALL know what went wrong..
By NOT being GOOD citizens and allowing it to happen..

So We CONTINUE to FAIL as long as we are there, JUST like Vietnam.. So what SHOULD a GOOD trader from SI do.. Cut their F'ng losses .. Got it now, you GOOD citizens.

And that brings me to another point, thinking about Powell.. Why the Hell has he had a free ride so long? from the progressives? I think I know.. But other "free rides", I can think of, John McCain, Barbara Bush, Bob Dole (for not speaking out) C Rice to a certain extent, etc. AND the whole God Damn Congress, especially the Republican majority for NOT allowing a look, a freakin peak into what really went on..

BEFORE and AFTER 9-11..

JMO.. but it is probably pretty f'ng close to the truth..I'll guarantee that.

You'll probably say it was the wine talking, but the wine seems to talk pretty regularly in this fashion in your evening posts. I've ignored it till now, but I won't in the future.

""""Are you actually quoting Joseph Wilson, in saying he felt the outing of his wife, Valerie Plame as an undercover CIA agent, was "UnAmerican?" I didn't see the show, but I'd be surprised if Wilson used that word."""

We will wait for the manuscript to clear that up.. I couldn't find it yet but I didn't spend much time on it.""""

Well for ALL those that want to be surprised.. Here is a snippet of the transcript. Wilson talking..(scroll towards the bottom)

""But the partisanship that goes into this was the attack on myself and on my family. This country is created with checks and balances guaranteed to, one, hold the government accountable for its actions and for its words, and two, to give citizens and the press certain privileges and rights to take on the government and challenge the government on what it says and does. For this government to have attacked me personally and then to have done what they did to my wife is, frankly, un-American.""

And frankly I don't post BS as the wingnuts and their supporters do without being able to back it up..

Not all rural areas are the same; proximity to major urban areas might be a factor.
My county is about as rural as it gets in the lower 48, except maybe the middle of Nevada or Montana. However, we vote Democrat big time, and Nader got 12% in '96. One of the factors might be the population relocating to those areas. Even 10 years ago, the county was much more split, between the hippies and the loggers. As people moved up here from the Bay Area, and as logging has declined in importance, we've become more liberal than ever.

Boy, the prison fiasco sure has generated a lot of responses. There about 100 msgs I need to read, in only one day.
