...Presumably having noticed none of this, America is occupying both Afghanistan and Iraq. We send our soldiers to preside over torture and humiliation. I doubt it's what they enlisted for. That's why governments are so tuned into history. So they can repeat it. None of them ever seem to learn. Though I do think that ... maybe ... most of Western Europe has learned something. After 1,000 years of near continuous war in Western Europe, they're beginning to think that there could be a better way. If that's correct, in another 800 years, the US might catch on. Alfed Nobel thought that his invention of dynamite would contribute to peace more than peace movements [which was his wife's approach]. If war got bad enough the world would give in to peace. While his concept could be right, he clearly grossly underestimated how bad it has to get. jttmab
