This is why I keep asking J. F. Shepard to cough up the supporting documents for kerry's Silver Star. From what I previously read, his boat comes around a bend in the river. A VC has dead aim on his boat with a recoilless rifle or RPG and could have taken him out. Instead the VC lowered his weapon and ran behind the building. Guidelines in places for the Swift Boats were not to beach their boats. kerry ignored this and beached his boat, endangering the lives of his crew and ran behind the building and killed the cowering VC. For this action he was presented with a Silver Star. If the facts in the one story I had read are accurate, he should have been courts-martialed under the Articles of War rather than decorated. I don't know which story is true, that is why I have been seeking the supporting documents (eye witness statements) which were utilized to support his Silver Star. The supporting documents could end this discussion once and for all. However, since none have appeared, the decoration is suspect.
