When all branches of government are controlled by a single party....the opportunity for abuse is greatly increased as we have seen repeatedly in the last several months.

Al, I think some GOP members are getting that things are screwed up but they are afraid to rock the boat too much.

Congress is being too passive. They are responsible for their passiveness, regardless of their party, because it was they whom decided not to ask for information on the conditions of the prison. It's also they whom didn't poke around and check things out at the troop level. They rely only on top-level reports. They are no different than the Board of Directors from the corporate scandals - asleep at the wheel because they are out of touch with the troops (or employees.)

Their job is to protect the system from corruption. They need to prove they can clean it up. And not let sleazy people get away with it (who can craft directions intentionally ambiguous so the written word says one thing, while the verbal word suggestively says exactly the opposite.)

I'm getting tired of paying the price for high-level people asleep at the wheel, whether it be corporate scandals or prisoner abuse. Our system is flawed because the chain of reports always come from the top, not the people in the thick of it.

There's something seriously flawed with a system that relies on reports that come from only the top.
