steve, my apology if you read my post as chastising you for posting the gilder article. i agree that he is no more shameless (and probably less) than most that push their newsletters. his opinions, as expressed in his newsletter, have hidden agendas. originally, if i'm not mistaken, he was simply a guru to the telecom industry. he then turned it into an investment newsletter, which is, imo, far different than simply providing information about an industry. he attempted to pass it off as one and the same, by going back and configuring "gains" during the period that he was discussing certain stocks. i remember the days when a stock would increase tremendously on a mention in his letter. retractively computing returns on those "recommendations" was simply disingenuous. btw, i also agree that he has vast knowledge of the telecom industry. kind of reminds me of a college econ professor that has had no life experience, but thinks he can start a hedge fund based on theory. a lot of things work great in theory, yet are better left in the classroom. <G>
