I think you've misunderstood the BBC's response.

It's not just pacificism, though that's a large part of it. It is a particular view of the world, which Fonte calls "trans-nationalism" and is basically an offshoot of socialism, with a large dose of multi-culturalism thrown in. This view says that the West must atone for its colonialist sins, and the oppressed brown peoples of the world must be excused for their bad behavior because they were once colonised, but can be talked round into wanting peace because that's what everybody wants.

Seen in this light, it matters immensely whether your country has been filed in the "colonizer" or "colonized" bin before the reporter starts writing the story. It also requires ignoring what most of the Islamists actually say they want, but that's not a problem for the BBC.
