Kerry volunteered for duty. All young men in that era were under some pressure to make a choice. He made his. Bush used family connections to evade the war. Cheney used 5 deferrments and said he had "more important" things to do. Tom DElay said there were plenty of blacks and chicanos who could serve in his place. This stark contrast is why we see then onslaught of vile dishonest lies about Kerry's service record now.

As Del Sandusky who served alongside Kerry the whole time said "I don't know where they get this stuff but none of it is true". The rightwing critics weren't there, didn't know Kerry and didn't fight with him, so why the hell are they qualified as character witnesses? Meanwhile, not a single person has come forward saying he saw GW report for duty in 1972 despite $15,000 in rewards sitting there for anyone who can vouch for him.
