It doesn't seem to work that way. In fact, it seems to work the opposite: we are loved where we are least.

People's everywhere desire freedom and Democracy for themselves... but Nationalism is also a strong motivator, and no one wants to be occupied.

I think the biggest problem in Iraq with democracy will be if the US tries to tell them who they can vote for. They are a religious society and will be inclined to vote for religious leaders. Our trying to take the religious element out of it will not work IMO.
