LL,

re: You hold the top official responsible for any action by an underling and mete out the same punishment you would to the underling to him. If the prison guard murders a prisoner, you execute the governor.

That may be your opinion; it's not mine. If the official ordered the crime, or created systemic rules that incited the crime, I would say that it's true they are culpable. But that was not the subject of my post.

I was saying that the torture was a strategic error, wrt the "war". You can't win a war/occupation when your actions make the vast majority of the population hate you. The war is over, we lost, it's just a question of how quickly and gracefully we surrender.

If you want to change the subject to the morality of torture, I would happy to oblige. I'm against it. You?

John

Bush and his SCIENCE facists are heading down the tubes and trying to take America with them

BUT MAYBE THERE"S HOPE!...EVEN NANCY REAGAN IS FED UP!
Stem cell debate could become election issue - NY Times : The NY Times reports that the debate over stem-cell research is re-emerging as an election issue as advocates for patients, including Nancy Reagan, press the president to loosen the limits on federal financing for the science. She is expected to support the research for the first time publicly in Beverly Hills on Saturday night at a star-studded fund-raiser sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Last week, 206 members of the House, including some in the Republican leadership, signed a letter urging Mr. Bush to allow the federal government to finance studies. Even Republican leader, Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee, would like to see the policy reviewed. Reagan, who is regarded by some as Republican royalty, will undoubtedly put the issue back in the spotlight.... Briefing.com Note: More calls for the research could generate interest in stem cell stocks: ASTM (0.90 -0.03), GERN (7.93 -0.15) and STEM (1.43 -0.02).

The JESUS FACTOR is starting to weigh on W's puny brain...
he thinks he can stop science by decree...so far he's done well in trying to hide, change and morph all real science that is coming out and the reports from the EPA....
HE WILL LOSE
