Russia has been trying to pull Georgia back into the fold for more than a decade, and using needles like Ajaria to pressure Tblisi. Bush and Putin must have come to an agreement - get rid of Sheverdnaze, don't stick a finger in Russia's eye, and promise to crack down on Chechnyans in Pankisi Gorge. I don't know why else Russia would let us crawl all over them. Derek
