In one hour, Georgia went from, in the words of the Telegraph, the brink of civil war to jubilation.

This is really stunning. Russia has been trying to pull Georgia back into the fold for more than a decade, and using needles like Ajaria to pressure Tblisi. Bush and Putin must have come to an agreement - get rid of Sheverdnaze, don't stick a finger in Russia's eye, and promise to crack down on Chechnyans in Pankisi Gorge. I don't know why else Russia would let us crawl all over them.
