Who'da thunk it?

I'm glad the problem was finally identified and solved. I had a similar situation. I came back from China with a cough that lasted for several years. I assumed initially it was from the high level of air pollution there. Turns out it was caused by a reflux problem in my esophagus. It's really wonderful when those nagging problems finally find a cause and a solution.

Re life extension, I would be interested in seeing figures on the lifetime costs of, for example, saving a baby so premature that it has permanent disabilities. I've never seen a number. I'll bet it would be shocking.

Re the $100 per hour cost of a doctor's office, I was struck by that, too. As I've mentioned here before, my primary care physician is one of the new breed that doesn't accept health insurance assignments. That figure explains why visits to her cost so much.
