I can't believe you have been spending $22 all this time when you didn't need to!

dawgy, you can cancel the MSN account and save $22. Your wife can now set up a new e-mail account with YOUR ISP for no extra cost. Or, she can open a free internet-based e-mail account - like Yahoo or hotmail.

When you get the router, there should be a 'quick install' sheet. That's probably all the info you need. But there should also be a manual.

In WinXP look for 'my network places' and then 'set up a home or small office network'.

Yes

Will she still be able to access her MSN account?

I think MSN offers a cheaper plan if you don't use their modem but go through your own ISP. AOL does. If MSN does not you can use hotmail, or yahoo mail, or another free mail, or she can use an extra e-mail account from your DSL ISP for probably no extra cost.

Will this effect performance on either computer?

The computer itself will not have lower performance. The bandwith is shares between the two PCs but this will rarely be an important factor. If you are both downloading files from very fast servers you theoretically could see your download speeds go down by 50% but more often then not the servers server the data slower then your connection can take it in.
