correct, router needs eternet or wireless, cable modem can use either.

to junk: this is what i would do. go to a local 'puter shop. ask to buy 2 used NIC cards (the one near me just gave me the card i needed because ther're so common and cheap). i'm not saying that you'll get them for free. i don't know dell's service, but, open up one of the computers and post here when you do. i and many others can guide you through the installation of a NIC card. it's not that hard. or you can call dell and ask for instructions over the telephone. be shure to unplug the computer you're working on before removing the case.
